6 hours, including a break

A designer, architecture apprentice, and art therapy facilitator, she works with the principles of our inner "Mother Nature", using raw materials to bring the creation itself to life. A unique work, built collectively over the course of a day: an installation Lucia Maria calls the "womb of the space", which becomes the symbolic anchor point for the Art Space throughout the remainder of the residency. The piece is composed of cork, tiles, wood, and eucalyptus, elements that serve as a metaphor for the art therapy process taking place simultaneously. You leave as a co-creator of an elemental piece that remains on-site, while taking with you fresh guidelines to use as a reminder point on how you choose to embrace yourself in the individual and collective field.

It is built from natural materials: cork, tiles, wood, eucalyptus leaves and string. If there is a branch, a leaf or a stone you feel called to bring with you, it can go in too.

There are physical exercises to loosen what sits in the body, and guided space to step back from the mental and emotional field, and look at what is there to be acknowledged through the peaceful lens of the impartial observer: you.

The two halves hold each other up. Working with your hands on something shared is what makes the stepping back possible, and what you carry out at the end is both: a share in a piece that stays, and practical tools for your own emotional release, and for the patterns you already know you would like to work with.

No experience is needed. It is a long day with a break in the middle, and it is paced for harmony and balance rather than for finishing.

Meet the artist

Lucia Maria

Lucia Maria

Designer, architect and art therapist, and one of the residency's vegan chefs.

An artist in as many forms, her creative movement is expressed through wall art, murals, canvas and surface paintings, and project design installations built from wood, cork, or whatever can best support and represent the essence of the project. Behind all of it: an architect's training, a designer's practice, and an art therapist's eye.

She is also one of the residency's vegan chefs, cooking several of the To Gather Together dinners.

This day has been and gone

The August residency is over and nothing here is for sale any more. The page stays up as a record of the day. We are now bringing our creative services, living galleries and art residencies to hotels and guest houses — if that is you, or you would simply like to know what comes next, write to us.

We answer every message personally.
