What the place is
A place you create in.
The Art Space Hotel is an old windmill with a farmhouse built around it. The tower is what you see first from the road: whitewashed, with a glass dome on top. The hotel itself is the long low building beside it, under terracotta tile, and that is where everything happens.
It stands on its own hill in the Southern Alentejo, with olive and cork trees around it and no neighbours in sight. It is a quiet place to spend a day working.
It was already called the Art Space Hotel when I first walked into it, and the vibrant art was the one thing I found missing. I felt called to revive the place and to invite artists into it, so that what fills these walls is co-created here rather than bought in.
My longer vision is a living gallery, in these rooms and online, carrying local artists alongside international ones and letting the space be a bridge between those worlds.
Where it is
A hilltop outside Odemira
The hotel is in the countryside outside Odemira, in the Southern Alentejo. From above you can see all of it: the tower, the pool, the roofs along the ridge, and the olive terraces running down the hill.

Before you come
What to expect on the day
- It is hot and open in August, and a good part of the day happens outdoors. Bring a hat, and something for when the sun goes down.
- Materials are usually included, though for some workshops the artist will ask you to bring something along.
- The pool is open to everyone. Bring a swimsuit if you want to use it.
- Wear something that suits the workshop, so your good clothes do not get damaged.
