Life Drawing: Gesture and Observation

with Bruno Palma

Scroll
When
Saturday 22 August
Time
10:00 to 15:00
Length
5 hours

A focused life drawing session with a live model, moving from short gesture poses into longer studies. Welcoming for every level, from complete beginners to experienced hands, with the emphasis on observation, movement and presence rather than perfect finish. Every piece made becomes part of the Open House exhibition on 27 August.

The emphasis is on observation, movement, weight and presence rather than perfect finish. Materials are kept simple: paper and charcoal or pencil.

Life drawing is one of the most direct ways to reconnect with looking carefully and responding honestly. The session aims to create a quiet, concentrated atmosphere where participants can slow down, observe deeply, and leave with a stronger connection to the act of drawing itself.

Meet the artist

Bruno Palma

Bruno Palma

Animation concept artist and life drawing facilitator.

I spent my childhood and adolescence among the whitewashed walls and cobblestone streets of Benafim, in the municipality of Loulé. My interest in drawing and painting was sparked early, on a memorable afternoon when a neighbour showed me a book about the Dutch painter Van Gogh.

In 2004, driven by my passion for drawing and painting, I moved to Ireland, where I graduated in Animation.

For 15 years I worked in the animation industry as art director, production designer and 2D background artist, contributing to projects for RTE, BBC and Disney XD. Throughout this period, observational and figurative drawing remained a constant foundation of my practice.

Today, life drawing, particularly gesture drawing, is part of my daily practice. Working from the live model continues to be the core of my artistic process, sharpening observation, gesture and presence. Alongside this, I maintain a connection to animation and occasionally paint the Algarve landscapes that surround me.

This day has been and gone

The August residency is over and nothing here is for sale any more. The page stays up as a record of the day. We are now bringing our creative services, living galleries and art residencies to hotels and guest houses — if that is you, or you would simply like to know what comes next, write to us.

We answer every message personally.
